Fall Equinox

Fall Equinox

The air smells so refreshing right now you could almost mistake it for spring. The warm days, cool nights and changing leaves do something for my soul I'm not even sure I can put it down into words. The contentment I feel is next level during this time of year.

The Autumn Equinox, Mabon or Alban Elfed was this weekend. (Sept 22-23) It marks the balance of day and night before darkness wins the battle of ebb and flow. During this second and final harvest, we give thanks to the Earth Mother for all of her abundance throughout the growing season and we prepare the pantry and home for the many cold nights that lie ahead.

This is a time of wonder and gratitude as we reflect on all the hard work put into our land and gardens and the bounty that was gifted back to us in return.

Tomatoes, Marigolds and Swiss Chard

As soon as the weather starts to cool I have this instinctual urge to bake all of the things. Is there anything better than the smell of a crisp cold fall morning mixed in with banana bread, apple crisp or pumpkin pie?

I always thought spring grounded me as I spent so much time in the garden with my bare feet touching the earth, but fall just pulls me back down and helps to put the entire year so far into perspective.

I hope you took time this weekend to relax, ponder and give thanks to the earth for whatever she's gifted you with this harvest season. If the weekend passed you by and the chaos of life had its grasp on you a little too tightly just know that you don't need a special day, weekend or season to be grateful for the earth. Grab your coffee, sit outside and focus on the trees (if you live somewhere with no greenery, visualize a tree) watch it sway and dance in the breeze. Marvel in its innate ability to move through the circle of life year after year, dropping its leaves and focusing its energy inwards on its roots in preparation for the cold months ahead. Give thanks for the many things they gift us throughout the year from clean fresh air to maple syrup to fruits and healing herbs and oils.

Today I leave you with a small offering of a few of my favourite fall diffuser blends. Happy Equinox!
