Seed Season Has Arrived: My 2026 Canadian Seed Company Lineup

Well friends it's that time again. Our favourite garden winter activity has finally arrived... seed ordering!

This time last year I wrote a blog post on the best online seed stores in Canada. For years I only shopped at these main companies - West Coast Seeds, Richters and The Incredible Seed Co. I typically found everything I needed between those three and the odd seed package from the hardware store or grocery store.

But after that post my gardening dreams and goals changed dramatically.

Cut flowers have now entered the chat.

Chrysanthemums, Statice, Calendula

As a primarily veg & herb grower in the past everything I ever needed realistically could have been purchased online through Richters, and they're still my number 1 spot for any significant herb seeds and plant purchases. But when cut flowers entered the scene boy did my life get flipped upside down in the seed department.

There are countless companies selling flower seeds online and the more you look the more you find and that hole just gets deeper and deeper as you go.

Last spring I found so many gems in the flower seed world. I ordered from a dozen new companies, most of them small, independent, Canadian ones with great success.

I will still always trust Richters & West Coast Seeds but I find myself in need of a more specific, specialty line up and in order to fulfill my 2026 garden goals I needed to branch out.

Note: I would not recommend buying seeds from multiple online companies if your garden goals are small, you're just starting out or are not confident in your growing abilities. The cost of shipping these days makes me cringe and sometimes we're better off buying from one company online or locally if a seed store is available. Shipping costs can easily add up to well over $100 if you order from 3+ companies so just a heads up. One more thing: your local grocery or corner store seeds are likely just as viable as large online retailers. Don't be scared to buy what you can from where you can. Just get the seeds and plant them!

Halifax Seed Co - new for 2026, incredible seed variety, shipping was very fast!!
Hawthorn Farm - have purchased seeds locally before, trusted for my 5b zone.
Matches Seeds - found/ordered from in 2025 with great success, prices great and offer smaller seed amounts for trials.
The Incredible Seed Co - a trusty favourite for specialty seeds. Prices are good.
Veseys - new for 2026.
William Dam Seeds - new for 2026.
Revival Seeds - new for 2026.

Dahlias - Carlisle Flower Farm - excellent quality dahlia tubers, 100% success rate.
Seeds - The Olive Seed Co - great cut flower varieties.
Seeds - Eco Seed Bank - great prices.
Dahlias - Longwoods Flower Farm - dahlia tubers and heirloom chrysanthemums.

Notable US mention - Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds/Rareseed - I have no issues supporting my American friends but a lot of the time the shipping & exchange is just too astronomical to justify the purchase. However with an 8$ flat rate fee to Canada and a Hot Pepper Seed I couldn't find here, I did place an order with them. They have an abundance of specialty seeds if interested. Will definitely keep them in mind for the future.

Many of these companies also offer free catalogues. Sitting down with a seed book is one of my favourite ways to spend a cold, snowy winter morning when the thought of spring seems light-years away.
